Cloning Weed – How To Clone Marijuana

Cloning is one of the popular methods adopted by growers to propagate marijuana and conserve their favorite strain. Cloning or taking cuttings offers the availability of multiple plants which are genetically identical to the original or mother plant of marijuana. Many people are a bit scared about the process and are sceptical to attempt it. However the fact is that  it is a very easy process. One of the several reasons why growers adopt this method of growing marijuana is that it does not require seeds. Another reason for adopting cloning is that it maintains a consistent quality of the crop.[ ]  [ ]  [ ]  [ ]  [ ]  [ ]  [ ]  [ ]  [ ]  [ 10 ]  [ 11 ]  [ 12 ]

How To Clone Weed For Cuttings

How to take cutting for cloning marijuana?

Before you start taking cuttings, make sure you have all the necessary supplies like a clean razor blade, a planting medium, water mister, tray with a plastic cover and many people use rooting hormone.  Most of the growers dip the freshly cut stem into a rooting powder or gel. Select a soft branch of marijuana plant. If you want to keep the plant to continue in vegetative growth, take cuttings from the branches which have 2-3 nodes. Take 2- 4 inches long cuttings. Many people prefer to take 8 inches long cuttings. If the stem is soft and green, it will root rapidly.  Make an even cut diagonally through the branch with razor blade, below the cutting. Strip off the leaves around cutting, dip in gel or powder and plant it.

How to root the cuttings of marijuana?

Plant the cuttings in a medium, water it with a fine mist and cover it with a plastic lid. Place the tray under fluorescent lights at a distance of about six inches and move it little closer every few days. Marijuana clones need warmth but not scorching heat. Direct light can burn the clones because in the absence of roots the stem cannot supply the leaves appropriate amount of water for transpiration. Transpiration is a very important process in plant’s life. Water and nutrients are absorbed from roots to the stem and leaves for photosynthesis. Uncover the cuttings once a day or you can put small holes on the plastic lid to provide ventilation. The tray or pot should have holes to drain excess water if the cuttings are over-watered. The roots need water and oxygen to survive and grow.

What care should be taken after cutting?

When the tray or pot feels light you should water it. If the plant looks dry or wilted, water it with fine mist. Check if the roots are showing out of the tray from bottom or sides. Check every three days and if you can see the roots coming out, transplant it to the growing medium preferably soil. Use a pot which has well drainage system. You can choose hydroponics as a medium for growing marijuana. Hydroponics has advantages over soil as it improves the speed of the completion of crop and provides high yield. Whatever medium you choose, cloning is a fantastic way to preserve the best marijuana strains one wants. Best strains can be revived and cloned even after the plant has flowered and has been harvested.
